The interesting photo below is of Boy Scout Troop #155 circa 1953. The troop was based at the Kilgore Methodist Church at Rush KY when Henry J Hughes Jr of Ashland KY was pastor. Henry Hughes was very engaged in the community and was instrumental in providing all sorts of opportunity for area youth, of which this Boy Scout Troop was just part of the mix.
Troop #155 was led by Rush resident Glen Bradford (1909 – 1972). Glen lived in Rush and in addition to his regular job had a TV and radio repair business and also ran an ad hoc sawmill operation. Glen very likely took this photograph. The photo was taken inside the Kilgore Methodist Church.
The photo and individual identifications initially came from Troop # 155 member, Harold Bates (born 1939). Larry Thomas (born 1941), also a Troop # 155 member, loaned both his copy of the photo and his copy of Harold Bates’ list for this short article.
