Lon, I think communicating by email will work better for me. I transcribed some of my great-grandfather’s diaries many years ago–long before common use of the Internet, the Cloud, the thumbdrive, etc. In other words, I will send you copies, but you’re on your own to input them on your site.
Btw, the diarist’s name was Joseph Bertrand NORRIS. You referred to him as Joseph Bertrand (which I may have done in references to him, to distinguish him from other Norris family members. He actually went by J.Bertrand Norris.

I’m still not sure what kind of information you hope to get from me. Apparently my ggf began his series of diaries in 1861. His last known diary was from 1882. I inherited 13 of the diaries (not sequential), and must assume the rest are lost for all time. My ancestor was not a soldier in the Civil War. My father told me that JBN was burned as a baby. He had been wearing black stockings and the fire somehow fused the leg, stocking, foot–I dunno. All I know is that Dad said he remembered his grandfather as having lasting effects from the burn. The injury may have kept him out of the war, but it did not prevent him from walking great distances nor from other physical labor. He became a school teacher–a job very different from today’s educators! His diaries are full of names from the area (and his own family), as well as occasional references to the War and his daily struggles and observations.

      Tim,

      Thanks for the tip.

Over the past few years I have personally spent hours and hours on the C&O Historical Society’s website. I have ordered many prints from them in addition to other data. I have a personal collection of their images from Coalton, Rush, Grant, Kilgore, the tunnels, etc.

One issue. Their images are copyrighted. Even if you have purchased their images they cannot be displayed without permission. They are very protective of their images, and rightfully so.

I hope to get to Clifton Forge in the near future to do some needed research at their facility.

      Enjoy! Lon
